Individuals who have struggled for years with compulsive pornography use sometimes look for a silver bullet or magic button to solve what has been a problem for sometimes more than a decade. This makes sense, of course, because it’s a problem we are embarrassed about and want out of our lives quickly. Unfortunately, each silver bullet and magic button has failed, causing continued frustration and headache. That’s because the best way to overcome pornography use--or to change any behavior for that matter--is to make small, intentional, consistent, and day by day adjustments.

7 Days Stronger reinforces the mindset James Clear discusses in his book Atomic Habits. He states, “Whether it is losing weight, building a business, writing a book, winning a championship, or achieving any other goal, we put pressure on ourselves to make some earth shattering improvement that everyone will talk about. Meanwhile,” he says, “Improving by 1 percent isn’t particularly notable--sometimes it isn’t even noticeable--but it can be far more meaningful, especially in the long run. Success is the product of daily habits--not once-in-a-lifetime transformations.”

So, while the long term goal is to no longer rely on pornography to get through life, the means of getting there is an incremental, day by day process. Much of our lives are already based on the structure and rotation of a week with responsibilities and tasks pre-outlined depending on what day of the week it is. When we use the structure of our week to our advantage and recognize little improvements we can make each day, we naturally will become 7 days stronger with any habit we focus on.
